We woke to a beautiful day with clear skies and sunshine. The decision to stay here one more day or leave is predicated on our ability to get a site at Clinton State Park, in Fernandina Beach Florida. Clinton State Park is one of the many state parks in Florida that we love but is by far Ron’s favorite. So much so that he is willing to drive out of the way to get there.
When I called I was told that there was a site available and to come on in. We quickly closed up and headed out hoping that someone else hadn’t beat us there since the walk-in sites are first come first serve. Fortunately it is a fairly short drive of 85 miles.
We arrived around 10:45 am and were told that all sites were full. I did state that I had called and we were told to come in. Another ranger popped his head in the window and said there was an available site for one night. We hopped on that train and secured the site. It was early so we had the entire day to enjoy the beach and the ocean.
After settling in and having brunch we took a short nap, then a walk for Jewel, then a walk on the beach and across the fishing pier. When we arrived there was a heavy fog over that area that finally lifted by 2 pm.
Today would be my first walking on the beach for a long distance challenge with my new knee. From our campsite to the end of the pier is about 2 miles round trip. HMMMM!
We have been here on two or three other occasions walking the pier with only a few people around. Not so today. There were so many people fishing on the pier it felt like a fishing pier traffic jam. LOL
Some kids had caught a fish and make it a little fish pond on the beach. They were having a great time watching the fish swimming circles.
Back at the CG we relaxed, and enjoyed the rest of the day. Hopefully we will be able to secure another site here. We were told to check at the office around 10 am. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
