Still no warm weather but we decided to go into town anyway. Bundled up in winter coats we were off to Bourbon Street. I had chosen a highly acclaimed restaurant on Bourbon Street for lunch.
Hmmm, the best laid plans will sometimes go awry! We found the restaurant but could not find a parking place within 3 miles of it. The traffic was a mess and all of the paid parking lots were full.
Let me say that we have been to Bourbon Street before, and although it was a little shaky it is now worse then ever. Dirty, stinky and basically falling down. Not sure how or why such a popular place is being let go – but it is. Can’t really tell all that much in pictures but it is worse then before.
We drove around town hoping to catch an empty parking spot but no such luck.
Pretty shotgun houses in another part of town.
Local Art Work
After driving through Bourbon Street, the Arts District, the Garden District, the Warehouse District and the rest of town we finally decided to head out and find a restaurant elsewhere.
We found a place called Sassafras about two miles from our CG.
So here we are in New Orleans with many great restaurants and Cajun food. So what does Ron get off the menu specials. Not Red Snapper, or Catfish – You guessed it folks – MEATLOAF!!!!! OK then. Well I got Crab cakes with crayfish legs over a pasta with pesto sauce. But first we got chicken wings as an appetizer. Let me say the wings were the best and my meal was spectacular! Ron said his meatloaf was great – but it was meatloaf! Anyway we found that we did not have to go into town for great food – it was right close to home!
We got back to the CG around 5 pm and opted out of going back into town for the nightlife. We were told it gets pretty hairy in there at night and since it was getting colder we decided to call it a day. Tomorrow we hope to run into warmer weather as we travel further west.
