Day 10–St Joseph’s Peninsula CG, Port St. Joe, Florida

on Thursday, January 8, 2015

We had planned on leaving this morning but Jewel was sick vomiting three times. The first two looked like she had specks of blood in her vomit then the third time it was clearly a lot of blood.  On our walk yesterday, she was doing fine until the end then vomited once. She didn’t eat or drink anything last evening and was somewhat lethargic. We thought she might have gotten into something on our walk but we watch her  pretty carefully and didn’t see her eating anything. After her episodes this morning she didn’t look well so Ron went to the Ranger Station to ask if there is a vet in the area.

We couldn’t look for a vet online because we have a weak intermittent connection here. I did call the vet in Port St. Joe and Jewel will be seen at 3:30 pm today. We booked another night and waited for her appointment.

As the day progressed Jewel appeared better and had no further episodes of vomiting. We kept the appointment anyway and by the time we got to the vet she was back to her old self. (Of Course! LOL)

Ron thought she may have swallowed a sand spur, because on our walk I picked a couple off of her feet. They are everywhere and she certainly could have swallowed one by mistake.

The vet was very good and thought a sand spur or a bug was the possible culprit. He ordered a med to coat her stomach and an antibiotic because he felt her teeth were infected. He told us to watch her and if she had another bleed she would need blood work and an x-ray.

The ride to the CG is through a lovely beach town with beautiful homes .

Ron took the computer to the Wi Fi area to post yesterday’s blog and to take Jewel for a short walk while I made dinner. It has warmed up to 40 degrees so is quite nice now.

The plan is to leave in the morning if Jewel is still OK. Ron went out to get a picture of another sunset before we depart.

The end to a stressful day that has turned out well for us and Jewel.
