HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We were awakened in the middle of the night by Jewel panting, shaking and trying to dig in between our two pillows. She was practically sitting on my head – so much for being in a sound sleep. I was able to calm her down and get her back to the foot of the bed where she will usually sleep. I thought she may have heard another loud noise that scared her but Ron thought she may have been dreaming about those nasty fireworks!! LOL
We got off to our usual late start – 11:15 am. The traffic wasn’t bad but Ron didn’t feel like driving again today. We arrived at the Georgia welcome center at 3 pm and the place was a mob scene. People and cars everywhere – so many cars that they had to overflow into the RV /truck parking lot.
Unfortunately, we have discovered that leaving during a holiday/school vacation week was not one of our best plans. The traffic has been a nightmare and getting into a campground a challenge. We thought we might go into Savannah but since it is a tourist destination, there are thousands of people out in force and we have been there several times so we opted out.
I called around to multiple campgrounds but they were full!!! Ron and I were beginning to think tonight would be spent in a rest area. The good news, it is a balmy 63 degrees and very comfortable, I tried one last campground about 58 miles south and we were able to secure a site. Yeah!
When we arrived we were greeted by a very nice woman and were provided with a site overlooking the lake. We were more then pleased with the small, cozy, quiet place to spend the night.
After settling in and having dinner Ron announced that he wasn’t feeling well. He has been very tired and out of sorts for the last two days. After we called his mother to wish her a Happy New Year he promptly fell asleep in the recliner at 7:30 pm and was in the bed by 8 pm. Hopefully he will feel better in the morning.
