So today we were forced to leave the resort in San Diego. LOL We have been told over and over that the CG will be full any time soon. Sure it will. The people who had to leave for one day spent the night parked on the road. We took their site while the site we had to move out of remained empty all night.
Ron and I were talking to the people next to us and asked about the trailer park along the bay and why there were so many empty lots. Apparently, the city is trying to take over the trailer park and expand Mission Bay Park for the general public. There have been lawsuits pending by park residences for the last 15 years. I guess the city won’t let anyone sell their property hence the vacant lots. Most of the people who live in the park have been there for about 50 years.
I spent a good part of the morning calling campgrounds to secure a site for tonight and Friday. After seven calls to different CG’ s with no luck getting sites (all full) I happened upon the Newport Dunes CG in Newport Beach. They had availability but they also charge an arm and leg. Since we were in a bind I booked two nights. Thursday at $88.00 a night and Friday at $113.00 plus a fee for Jewel and taxes. Yikes, it better be as nice as it looks on line.
Ron had gone to scout out gas stations and found one he thought we could get in and out of easily. We left around 10:30 am with the first stop – gas. We got in OK but had to block a couple of pumps. The stations are not made for big rigs. A worker came out with an attitude and told us to “PICK ONE” – meaning a pump. I told her we couldn’t back up with a tow vehicle and she insisted we move. Obviously she thought we could maneuver the MH like a VW Beetle. Again she said – “PICK ONE” and Ron told her not to worry we would be buying enough gas for four cars. Off she went a little miffed. After that irritation we were on our way.
We arrived at Newport Dunes and given our site. The site was 40 feet long and 25 feet wide with a fence around it and a dirt base. We had a difficult time getting into the site with no place to park our car. They had bigger sites but the kid did not respond to my request for one. I went back to the office and asked for a different site or a bigger site. We were moved to the another site but it was not bigger or better. We had to park our car halfway into the site next to us. So much for resort parking.
The area is very nice and the amenities great but they are located at the front of the park. The CG area itself is very tight and crowded.
We took a walk around and it is quite pretty.
Friday we will be taking a ride into Long Beach and tour the Queen Mary.
